The Brain

The Brain is a bit complex mindmap maker, which may take some time to get used to. The free version has some restrictions; however, it is capable of making amazing mind maps.

Begin by creating a Parent Node. Create Child nodes, and sibling nodes with the help of respective shortcuts or from the context menu. The free version lets you link a file or web link to a node. You can also set various themes for a mindmap.

The nodes branches contract and expand depending on the selected node. The map does not remains static, and that becomes a problem sometimes to get an overview of the map at once.

You can save a mindmap, but cannot export it, as it is a pro feature.

  экспортирован в формат .odt пакета LibreOffice);
• в графический файл формата jpg или png (смотрите пример на

Возможности презентации или использования созданных вами карт ума
практически безграничны.

Использование FreeMind на практике

Если вы в первый раз открываете FreeMind, чистое поле диаграммы
готово для запечатления ваших, без всякого сомнения, блестящих идей.
Щелкните мышью на New Mindmap и измените заголовок вашей будущей работы
(например -«FCM — статья о программе FreeMind»).

Нажмите клавишу Insert для вставки пункта первого уровня (например,
«Введение»). Нажмите клавишу Enter для вставки второго пункта первого
уровня (например, «Установка приложения»). Создайте новый дочерний узел
и заполните его своими свежими идеями, бурлящими в вашей голове.

Для ускорения процесса работы используйте сочетания клавиш:
перемещаться от одного узла к другому можно с помощью клавиш-стрелок;
основное редактирование производиться с помощью клавиш Insert, Enter,
Escape и Delete; для редактирования текста внутри выбранного узла
воспользуйтесь клавишей F2.

Конечно, вы можете использовать и мышь для выбора узла или пункта
меню, а также кнопки для создания карты ума в целом. Щелчок мыши на
родительском узле открывает или закрывает все узлы (родительский и все
его дочерние). Вы можете перемещать карту целиком в любое место
рабочего пространства методом обычного drag’n’drop — зажимаете мышью
рисунок и перетаскиваете его, не отпуская, в нужное место.

Исходя из чисто практических целей, первоначальные размеры узлов
достаточно маленькие. Но вы можете сделать их бóльшего размера, в
случае необходимости. Можно добавить поясняющую надпись для выбранного
узла (это делается в нижнем окне). Вы имеете возможность
воспользоваться простым встроенным html-редактором для форматирования
текста или даже для создания таблиц. Опытные пользователи могут
просматривать готовый html-код (вторая вкладка внизу окна). Надпись
может быть как текстом заголовка (узел) так и дополнительной поясняющей
записью для пункта.

Нажатие сочетания клавиш Alt+I открывает каталог с
предустановленными иконками. Вы можете выбрать любую из них для
добавления к узлу на вашей карте. Добавление иконок делает ее более
читаемой и интуитивно понятной (становятся четко различимыми уровни по
их значимости, история развития проекта и ожидаемый результат). Иконки
для карты можно подобрать в вертикальной панели инструментов.

Имеется функция, которая делает эту программу по настоящему
высококлассным продуктом — узлы карты могут быть преобразованы в
гиперссылки (меню Insert — Hyperlink). Это делает использование
диаграммы крайне удобным и полезным. Узлам можно назначить адреса: на
файлы в локальной системе, на разнообразные ресурсы в Интернете,
«привязать» к ним почтовые ящики; можно сделать ссылку на другую часть
той же или какой-либо другой карты. Вы даже можете назначить картинку
узлу или объединить узлы графической ссылкой (наличие этой возможности
вам необходимо проверить в меню программы).

Если вам нужно поменять порядок узлов, вы легко это можно сделать
путем перетаскивания выбранных узлов в другое место. Тень,
отбрасываемая узлом при его перетаскивании, имеет служебную цель — она
показывает место, где будет располагаться в будущем этот узел; а также
то, будет ли он дочерним или родительским узлом.

В пункте меню Tools доступны еще несколько специальных функций
FreeMind. Например, имеется возможность создания узлов с таймером —
служат для установки напоминаний для пользователя на карте памяти.
Отредактированные узлы выделяются при этом желтым цветом.

Еще одна способность программы — поиск информации на диаграмме.
Например, если ваша карта ума становится слишком большой и на ней
трудно что-либо найти, можно воспользоваться фильтром поиска (находится
в горизонтальном меню, четвертая иконка слева), который служит для
поиска узлов. Или же применить фильтр для поиска текста — нажмите
иконку фильтра и задайте нужный вам фильтр поиска.

Collaboration

• You can share a map in your network.
• To do this, you need to specify a port and a password. Then you are the master.
• Others that reach your master-host and the port can connect with the password.
• They will get exactly the same map as a local copy.
• Each change from any participants is distributed among all participants.
• To end the collaboration, just choose «Share map» again. Then, some seconds later, all clients see, that the collaboration has ended.
• The title of the window shows the hostname, port and the participants of the collaboration.
• Observe, that there is little security around. Only the password is present, but the communication is in plain.

Application areas

Freeplane supports much more than classic static mind mapping. This is illustrated by the mind map Application areas on the right, which summarizes the kind of tasks supported by Freeplane. Click on the hyperlink below the image to navigate the map. Read the node called Caption to learn how to navigate the map and unhide hidden information. Click the node Demonstration creating a map to see how easy it is to make a map.

In the center of the map, Application areas you see the central topic (root node) of the map. Extending from it are branches with subtopics (child nodes). At the border you see free topics (free nodes) which are independent of the root-tree. All topics can be formatted or styled and can contain text, hyperlinks, pictures and more; and can be connected with labelled lines or arrows. Also a topic (node) can represent hidden information which displays when the user wants it or can be automatically executed (formula). Content can also be password protected or connected to a particular time or filter.

Blumind

Blumind is an amazing brain mapping software, which will impress you with its simplicity to let you make mindmaps. You can work on multiple mindmaps side by side, customize topic nodes, add icons, add progress bars, and do much more.

On a fresh mindmap canvas, a Center topic node is provided; double click to add text. Topics and subtopics can be added easily, either by keyboard shortcuts, through the context menu, or through icons on the interface. Copy a node and paste it anywhere on the canvas or on another mindmap. Options to change Node properties let you change Text formatting, Node color, Add icons, Add hyperlink, and Map layout.

If you want your mindmap to look attractive, you can choose from a long list of themes available in various color schemes.

An additional feature that this mindmap program has is a countdown timer. You can set a timer by defining hours, minutes, and seconds.

To save your progress on the mindmap, simply use the Save option. Mindmaps can also be exported as PNG, JPEG, TIF, GIF, SVG, or TXT.

2. GitMind

GitMind is an easy-to-use online mind map tool. With it, you can visualize complicated concepts, generate new ideas, make lists with task priorities, and prepare for the presentation. Type in the topic name, and click Insert Node.

Choose Insert subnode to create sub-branches. And click the Relation line to show any relationship between ideas. You can assign a task priority, progress meter, flag, and more with the built-in symbols. To add a symbol, select the target node and click Icon from the toolbar.

At each node, click the Attachment button to insert links, images, and comments. There are many export options available, including TXT, PNG, PDF, DOCX, and SVG.

Unique Features

• Variety of themes, including classic, colorful, and business templates. Click the Style button to customize node spacing, background color, line, border shape, and more.
• Arrange the mind map in seven different layouts and reset them at any time. Click the Layout button and change it to mind map, logic chart, tree chart, and fishbone.

Install from .deb package

This method allows you to install newer versions of FreeMind. First choose the correct .deb file:

1. For FreeMind version 0.8.1 you can download the package from the FreeMind Sourceforge download page. This method has been tested with Ubuntu versions 8.04 (Hardy Heron), 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) and 9.04 beta (Jaunty Jacalope).

2. For FreeMind version 0.9.0 you can download the package from Launchpad. This is the i386 package. For other architectures see the full list of published versions

Once you have downloaded the file, double click on it and it should install with Gdebi.

Если карта получилась довольно объемная, то имеет смысл воспользоваться главным преимуществом компьютерных интеллект-карт перед бумажными: в электронном виде ветви древовидной структуры можно сворачивать и разворачивать. Благодаря этому можно огромные карты ума приводить к компактному виду, и получать доступ к нужной информации, разворачивая выборочно те или иные ветви. Для этих целей в программе FreeMind предусмотрен целый ряд операций над узлами, которые можно выполнить как с помощью соответствующих комбинаций клавиш, так и через пункты меню, находящиеся в разделе «Узел» главного меню программы.

Воспользовавшись операциями сворачивания узлов можно привести нашу ментальную карту к довольно компактному виду. При этом видно, что концы ветвей содержат маленькие кружочки, которые означают, что у узлов есть дочерние узлы, которые на данный момент свернуты.

Если нас интересует информация из какого-то раздела, то можно развернуть соответствующую ветвь дерева и увидеть нужные узлы.

Поскольку в нашем случае оказался выбранным узел не самого нижнего уровня, то раскрывшиеся его дочерние узлы оказались вне границ окна. Чтобы их увидеть можно либо перейти к ним (с помощью мыши или стрелок клавиатуры), либо передвинуть весь холст карты, зажав левую кнопку мыши в пустой области и двигая указатель в нужную сторону.

1. Coggle

Coggle is an online tool for creating mind maps. The app lets you and your team collaborate on notes, brainstorm ideas, and create project plans. Every mind map starts with a single central topic. Click the Plus (+) button to add a branch and enter your text in the box.

You can format text, insert links, add images, and icons to elaborate the key points. From here onwards, continue adding branches as per your needs. You can even create a cross-link to other items in a mindmap. Open the context menu, press the Shift key to bring the cross-link icon. Then, drag the cross-link line.

You can create three private diagrams with a free account, collaborate in real-time, and upload unlimited images. The export options include .MM, TXT, Microsoft Visio, PDF, and JPEG. Check out the to explore premium features.

Unique Features

• Add multiple central nodes in a single workspace. Then, create loops and branches to connect other mind maps and see relationships.
• It supports keyboard shortcuts and has a vast collection of templates in Coggle Gallery to quickly start your projects.
• View the version history of the mind map. Check who last edited the map along with the date and make a copy of it at a particular time.

MindOnTrack

MindOnTrack is developed as a task manager, which has an inbuilt mind mapping tool. Here you will find options to add Reminders, manage Projects, make Mindmap, etc.

When you open this software, you will have to begin with a new blank map. Some options are available on the left panel of the interface. Scroll down to find MindMapping at the end of the list. The mindmap tool is pretty vast, just like Freemind. Begin creating a mindmap by adding a topic, and further add subtopics as required. You can also add a Floating Topic if required. Link two nodes, set boundary, or add a summary for a subtopic group.

To make your map more appealing, you can add background color, change text formatting, node shape and color, and attributes of connecting lines. Various map structure templates are available to build a mindmap according to requirement. These structures are: Fishbone, Matrix, Tree, Logic chart, etc.

Save your progress in XMind Workbook format, or export your mindmap as image, PDF, HTML, Text, etc.

FreeMind

FreeMind is an opensource mind mapping software with awesome capabilities to put whatever you have in your mind, onto a digital canvas. Though this software has been discontinued, you can easily download it from the internet. It is a cross platform mind mapping software and works on Windows, Mac, and Linux, as it is developed in Java.

Create multiple mind maps in different tabs at a time using a wide array of tools and formatting options. If you have an idea, start working on it right away by putting it down in a creative way. Encrypted mind maps can be created here as well.

To let you put down your ideas, start with a Parent Node, and start building ideas or expanding ideas by adding new Child nodes and Sibling nodes. For each Child node, you can add their Child nodes and Sibling nodes; this gives you freedom of limitless idea expansion and brainstorming with this free mind mapping tool. Encrypted nodes can also be inserted if you want. Click on a node to add text to it. You can also add icons from a wide variety of them available, add hyperlink (to a link, file, or a text field), image, graphical link, etc. to a node. You also get option to insert rich format text along with tables in your mindmap.

Now for more detailing, you are free to change node color, node background color, node edge color, node edge style, node edge width, and make a node blinking. Node style can be changed between bubble or fork. If you want, you can fold a node’s Children nodes to minimize it. If you want a replica of a node and its Children nodes, select and copy it to paste wherever you want on a mind map.

You can either save your work with this mindmap software, or export as document or images. Save a mindmap as .mm file and export as HTML, Flash, OpenOffice Writer document, PNG, JPEG, PDF, SVG, etc. Print and print preview options are also available with this mindmap program, which let you print your mindmap without saving.

Docear

Docear is developed as an Academic Literature Suite, where you can create vast mindmaps. This open source mind mapping software is free to use and is cross-platform, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The tools and options available to build mindmaps are extensive; lets take a look.

The interface displays options to add Parent node, Child node, Sibling node, Summary node, or Free node. You can easily move a node up/down/right/left, split node, merge nodes, and do much more.

The option to connect two nodes lets you change connection direction, opacity, connector shape, width, etc. Links can be added to nodes; these links can be hyperlinks or links to files stored locally on your PC or network.

Encryption is provided for security. You can either create an encrypted mindmap, or simply encrypt a branch.

Cmap

Cmap is a free mindmap software, with options to fully customize nodes and make simple as well as complex mind maps. Create a node, and begin creating Child and Sibling nodes to put down ideas systematically. When you click on an existing node, you will see an arrow pop up; drag it to place a new node.

There is a floating window available, where you can change Font attributes, Node style and color, Connecting line attributes, and the background color. I found it very easy to make mindmap with this software, as compared to most of the listed mind mapping software.

A mind map can be exported in PNG, PDF, PS, SVG, HTML, CXL, etc.

Canva is a web-based graphic design app that makes it easy to create mind maps. Equipped with ready-to-use templates and toolset, you can use this app for educational presentations, business pitches, corporate proposals, and project planning.

Enter the term ‘mind map’ in the search field, and within a few seconds, you’ll see a variety of templates. The built-in tools let you insert elements like shapes, frames, arrows, gradients, and more. You can even modify the text, photos, and background. The export options include PNG, JPEG, GIF, and PDF.
