After that it lists all the EPUB files that it finds and you can choose any of them to edit its metadata. Using Jorebook, you can easily edit Author, Publisher, Subject, and description like metadata parameters very easily.

Editing metadata of EPUB file using Jorebook is pretty easy. Grab its setup file from the above link and then install it on your PC. You will find its interface a quite complicated. Sigil-1.3.0

Sigil-1.3.0 represents a mix of bug fixes and new features for both epub2 and epub3 users.

Windows users please note that the installer will now allow Sigil to be installed for the current user only if desired. The installation of the included Visual Studio C++ runtime, however, will always require administrative privileges. You can provide those credentials for the runtime install portion only (if you install Sigil for the current user). The user can also skip the runtime check/install entirely if they desire. If they do so, however, it will be up to them (or their administrator) to make sure the proper Visual Studio C++ runtime is installed. Because of these changes, it recommended that Windows users uninstall the previous version of Sigil before installing this one. No settings, preferences, or plugins (or their configurations) will be lost by doing so.

Basic workflow¶

When you first open a book with the Edit book tool, you will be presented with
a list of files on the left. These are the individual HTML files, stylesheets,
images, etc. that make up the content of the book. Simply double click on a
file to start editing it. Note that if you want to do anything more
sophisticated than making a few small tweaks, you will need to know HTML
Tutorial and CSS Tutorial.

As you make changes to the HTML or CSS in the editor, the changes will be
previewed, live, in the preview panel to the right. When you are happy with how
the changes you have made look, click the Save button or use
File → Save to save your changes into the e-book.

One useful feature is Checkpoints. Before you embark on some
ambitious set of edits, you can create a checkpoint. The checkpoint
will preserve the current state of your book, then if in the future you decide
you don’t like the changes you have made to you can go back to the state when
you created the checkpoint. To create a checkpoint, use Edit → Create
checkpoint. Checkpoints will also be automatically created for you whenever you
run any automated tool like global search and replace. The checkpointing
functionality is in addition to the normal undo/redo mechanism when editing
individual files. Checkpoints are useful for when changes are spread over
multiple files in the book.

Но все же иногда возникает необходимость пересохранить электронную книгу в формат, понятный ридеру. Например, довольно популярная электронная читалка Kindle не поддерживает fb2, но замечательно работает с другими популярными форматами.

Файлы fb2 имеют четкую структуру и это позволяет их без труда конвертировать (сохранять) в другие популярные форматы, такие как txt, doc, rtf и т.д.

О том, как конвертировать fb2 в mobi (формат поддерживается читалкой Kindle), в простой текстовый файл txt или документ Word, я расскажу чуть позже.

Сейчас давайте разберемся с тем, чем открыть fb2 на Windows, то есть какая программа для чтения fb2 должна быть установлена на компьютере.

Работа с браузером

Полученные файлы можно открыть при помощи стандартного интернет-браузера даже без подключения к интернету.

Следует сделать лишь двойной щелчок по ним, и их содержимое окажется в окне просмотра.

Стоит отметить, что некоторые браузеры, включительно с , поддерживают просмотр таких файлов при наличии специальной надстройки, установленной из Сети.

Она позволит без использования тяжеловесных программ просматривать файлы книг аналогично тому, как это происходит с файлами с поддержкой быстрой навигации, масштабирования и прочими удобствами.

Для этого потребуется выбрать данный браузер в качестве программы, открывающей подобные файлы по умолчанию.

Пользователей часто интересует вопрос о том, как открыть архив RAR онлайн. Некоторые разработчики предлагают не только эти решения. Они дают возможность и читать книги без предварительного скачивания и установки специального софта.

Файлы epub и их структура

Расширение epub было разработано International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). Электронные книги, имеющие подобный формат представляют собой архивированные файлы (zip-архив). Внутри него содержаться различные папки, в которых размещается различная информация:

Many eBook distributors allow you to upload a Microsoft Word document for publishing it as an eBook afterwards. However, the conversion tools they use for transforming the original upload material into eBooks aren’t always as efficient as you’d expect them to be. The original layout of your text document might not be preserved. If you’re not happy with the end results after you add cover images to EPUB files, you can use a third-party app like calibre to modify them. Here’s what you need to do in order to edit EPUB covers:

Download and install calibre on your Windows PC. Launch the app and import your EPUB file.

Head to Edit Metadata menu. You can import another cover image from your local directories, choose which metadata to display and where it should be located on the cover, alter aspects of the cover’s appearance such as fonts, borders, colors, and margins, etc.

Больше всего возможностей для конвертирования (а также внесения некоторых коррекций) имеет Calibre. Ее возможности действительно поражают. Во-первых, при установке программы вам предоставляется выбор устройств для чтения электронных книг, с форматом которых вам придется работать в дальнейшем.

Есть поддержка русского языка, что тоже не мало важно. Преображает форматы: cbz, cbr, cbc, epub, fb2, html, lit, lrf, mobi, odt, pdf, prc**, pdb, pml, rb, rtf, tcr, txt в epub, fb2, oeb, lit, lrf, mobi, pdb, pml, rb, pdf, tcr, txt

В основном окне очень легко сориентироваться что к чему. Понятно где файлы загружаются, как и во что конвертируются, и как отправляются на iPhone, для чтения в Stanza.

Программа имеет массу возможностей, на описание которых уйдет много времени и места, поэтому я попробую остановится только на основных моментах. Перед конвертацией можно внести некоторые поправки в будущий документ, например, вручную ввести авторов, издательство и так далее.

Как видно на снимке, все красиво расставлено по авторам в каждой отдельной папке. После ознакомления с программой мой вердикт однозначен: все, кто хотя бы иногда читает электронные книги, Calibre должен иметь. Ну и плюс она бесплатна (я бы сказал: «БОЛЬШОЙ плюс»).

Намного проще программа EPUBGen. Ее лучше использовать при конвертации документов, чем больших книг. Это простая утилита, которая конвертирует fb2, doc, rtf в epub. В ее окно нужно перетащить файлы, и если они не большого размера, то конвертация проходит мгновенно.

Хранятся получившиеся epub в папке пользователя EPUBGen, но они разделены по своей иерархии. Как итог, можно смело сказать, что это программа для быстрого «перегона» небольшого количества документов. Для некоторых пользователей — то что нужно.

Среди наиболее популярных программ для чтения книг в рассматриваемом формате на ноутбуках и стационарных компьютерах выделяются:

Едва ли не самая популярная программа для чтения fb2.

Основные преимущества:

• минималистичный интерфейс и интуитивно понятная настройка отображения текста;
• удобство систематизации собственной библиотеки электронных книг без необходимости работы непосредственно с файлами через файловый менеджер;
• поддержка иных (кроме fb2) текстовых форматов;
• возможность скачивать книги из сетевых библиотек, пользуясь встроенным в программу менеджером.

Вероятно, единственный недостаток версии FBReader для персональных компьютеров заключается в невозможности отображения текста в двухстраничном режиме.
