Uninstalling the PortableApps.com Platform

Since the PortableApps.com Platform is self-contained, uninstalling is a snap. To remove, you simply delete its files. This would be the Documents and PortableApps directories as well as the Start.exe and autorun.inf files in the root directory. If you don’t have any data you wish to save on your portable device, you could also format it if you’d like. If you do have data within the Documents directory you’d like to save, simply delete the directories you don’t wish to keep. To remove the custom icons on the Documents directory (or any others), just delete the hidden desktop.ini file within each directory.

Описание:

Сколько страниц сайта Google точно проиндексировал, узнать невозможно. Поисковик не ведет базу данных по URL-адресам.

Примерное количество страниц в выдаче покажет оператор site:, на который мы ориентируемся. Число может быть искажено страницами, которые запрещены к индексу в robots.txt, но попали в выдачу из-за внешних ссылок на них.

Чуть более точное количество покажет раздел «Статус индексирования» в Google Search Console, но и эти данные могут быть искажены из-за применения фильтров.

Welcome to the PortableApps.com outdated apps tracker. Please post a comment for any outdated official apps that aren’t already listed with AppName Version as the title (no dashes, Vs or other text). Before posting a request, please make sure that their stable Windows build is available and they have been announced by their publisher (just being available on a download/ftp server, github, or 3rd party site doesn’t count as the app may not yet be official). Comments will be deleted as they are added. Bug reports or requests for updates of unofficial apps released as development tests should be made as comments in the post for those apps. This list is maintained by Kenny Williams (scriptdaemon) as well as the PortableApps.com admins & moderators.

Для открытия меню оболочки, кликните по значку PortableApps com Platform в области уведомлений. Вы увидите установленные (в моем случае на флешку) Portableapps программы. В нижней части окна оболочки находится индикатор, отображающий место, занятое портативными программами на флешке или на том диске, на котором находится программа PortableApps.com.

Из разделов меню «Документы», «Музыка», «Изображения», «Видео» можно войти в соответствующие папки на том диске, на котором установлена оболочка PortableApps.com.

В разделе «Просмотр» отрывается диск (флешка) или папка с PortableApps.

С помощью раздела «Архивация» можно создать резервную копию PortableApps.com с установленными портативными программами, или восстановить PortableApps.com Platform из резервной копии.

Из раздела «Приложения» можно проверить обновления, загрузить новое приложение, установить приложение, обновить иконки, показать скрытые иконки.

Для изменения параметров приложения нажмите на «Настройки». В окне «Настройка» организуйте список приложений по своим предпочтениям, выберите подходящую тему оформления.

В правом нижнем углу приложения расположены две кнопки: для выключения компьютера и для отключения PortableApps Platform.

Downloading a Portable App

PortableApps.com Platform — The easiest way to download new portable apps is to use the PortableApps.com Platform’s . Just click Apps from the PortableApps.com Menu and select Get More Apps. From there, you can view apps by Category, Alphabetically, Recently Updated or New Releases

Standalone — To download apps directly from PortableApps.com without our platform, just click the Download button from the application’s page. You’ll see a SourceForge download page that automatically selects a download server close to you and redirects you to the download. (If you’re using Internet Explorer, you may need to click the direct download link on this page. It appears as «If you are experiencing problems with the download please use this direct link» on the SourceForge page.) When you download the file, save it to a location you can easily find later like your Desktop or Downloads folder.

Adding Other Apps to the PortableApps.com Menu

The PortableApps.com Menu will also work with other standalone and portable apps. You just need to place them in a directory «next to» the PortableApps.com directory. So, in a standard layout, you’d create a directory within the X:\PortableApps directory and place it within there. For example, if you have a portable program MyApp.exe, you could create a folder called X:\PortableApps\MyApp\ and place MyApp.exe and all its files within there. Then, just click Apps — Refresh App Icons within the PortableApps.com Menu and your new app will show up.

It should be noted that, unlike apps in PortableApps.com Format, other apps labeled as ‘portable’ may not meet the definition of a portable app according to PortableApps.com. They could leave things behind on the local PC or some functionality may break as you move PCs. You will need to check with the provider to ensure it is fully portable. Additionally, apps not in PortableApps.com Format will not have their data backed up when you select to only backup app data using the platform’s backup feature. It will be backed up during a full backup, though.

A new version of ccPortable has been released. ccPortable assists you with running CCleaner in a portable way without needing to install it in Windows so you can clean local PCs on the go. Pidgin

Pidgin is a fully open source, multi-platform messaging client that uses the XMPP protocol. XMPP allows you to link to accounts such as Slack and AIM, ICQ, IRC, and Yahoo Messenger, if you are one of the internet oldies.

Telegram

Telegram is one of the best known, but not often used, partially open-source alternatives to Whatsapp (Telegram vs. Whatsapp). It functions as a standalone messenger or as a drop-in replacement for your SMS app on mobile.

Conversations with Telegram feature encryption and threading. Overall, it’s a great and safe alternative to some of the less secure messaging applications out there. However, while the Telegram app is open source, the servers which handle Telegram’s data is not open source.

YakYak

Google Hangouts has its supporters and detractors, but one of the things holding it back is the lack of a half-decent desktop app. So third-party developers have come in to fill the gap. The best one, in my opinion, is YakYak (yeah I know, terrible name), but the software itself is fantastic.

It works just like any other chat software for the desktop. Start conversations, receive them, get notifications of new chats, and send images. There is also audio and video integration, but that opens up in Google Chrome.

If the color scheme doesn’t suit, you can change it to blue or black. And it is all portable, no installation required. Cool, right? This might actually make me start using Google Hangouts.

Upgrading FileZilla Portable / Importing Old Settings

To upgrade to a newer version of FileZilla Portable, just install a new version right over your old version. All your settings will be preserved.

When upgrading from a 2.x version of FileZilla to a 3.x version, your old settings file can not be automatically upgraded and will be lost if you don’t manually save them. This is a limitation of FileZilla itself. Before upgrading, make a backup copy of your FileZilla.xml settings file from X:\PortableApps\FileZillaPortable\Data\settings\FileZilla.xml to a safe location.

After upgrading FileZilla Portable, just select Edit and then Import from the main menu and open up the file containing your old settings. FileZilla will then import your old settings and be able to use them. Some advanced settings like remote start directories will not be imported and you’ll need to set them up again.

Brutal Chess

I don’t know why I play chess, I really don’t. I always get slaughtered by the program, within the first 5-10 minutes of play. This is me after a few minutes, and already my Queen is under threat (I’m the white team).

The only brutal part of it is the brutal blood-letting going on when I get it into my head that I am a chess grandmaster.

Patience

Patience is basically the Windows 95 version of Solitaire on steroids. It has music, animation, and a load of other features that make it the premiere standalone version of Solitaire on the internet.

You need to use Universal Extractor to extract the files, and then go from there. It’s all explained on the download page. Now go forth and waste several days mindlessly playing this game.

Sudoku

I am not at all good at playing Sudoku. Yet, despite sucking at it, I recognize that it’s a truly great game. Even if you, like me, couldn’t play Sudoku on par with a 4-year-old toddler, it’s worth checking it out.

Значок PortableApps.com Platform отображается в области уведомлений (трее), если приложение установлено на жесткий диск компьютера. Если портативная платформа установлена на флешку, то значок отобразится после подключения  USB накопителя к ПК, в том случае, если на компьютере не отключен автозапуск с внешних устройств.

В целях безопасности автозапуск с внешних устройств отключают, поэтому запустить оболочку нужно непосредственно с флешки, кликнув по приложению «Start». Программы можно запускать непосредственно из папки PortableApps, войдя в папку программы. В этом случае, программа будет работать независимо от оболочки.

Для запуска нужной программы в PortableApps.com, кликните по иконке соответствующего приложения. Большинство программ работает на русском языке. Часть программ сразу будет работать на русском языке, в других приложениях для включения русского языка, нужно войти в настройки программы.

Программы запускаются после клика по иконке, или из контекстного меню правой кнопки мыши. В этом случае, можно выполнить дополнительные действия: запустить, запустить от имени администратора, обновить, переименовать, удалить и т. д.

После нажатия на «Все портативные приложения», в оболочке отобразятся категории, в которых находятся соответствующие программы. Кликните по нужной категории для отображения программ в данной категории.

Для перемещения программ между категориями, кликните по значку программы правой кнопкой мыши, выберите пункт контекстного меню «Категория», далее выберите категорию из списка, или создайте новую категорию.

Using and Updating Multiple Copies of the Same App

PortableApps.com Platform 13.0 introduced the ability to use and update multiple copies of the same app. Once you’ve installed the app you’d like more than one copy of, browse to your PortableApps directory and make a duplicate of the AppNamePortable folder you’d like another copy of. Copying and pasting it in Explorer will work fine. Rename the second copy to AppNamePortable_Copy_2 (replacing AppName with the name of the app). You can have up to 10 copies of the same app with the 10th being AppNamerPortable_Copy_10. Now, when you check for updates within the PortableApps.com Platform, the update will applied to all copies of the same app. Be sure to preserve your original AppNamePortable copy as that will be the one the updater uses to determine when all of them need an update. Note that a couple of apps maintained by the publisher using a much older version of the PortableApps.com Installer may not support multiple copies of an app (example: Task Coach Portable).

An app says it ‘did not close properly’ when started

You may see an error stating that «AppName Portable did not close properly last time it was run and will now clean up. Please then start AppName Portable again manually.» When you see this, it means that the portable app’s launcher did not close and clean up properly the last time the app was used. This can be caused by a system crash, an unsafe drive eject, or shutting Windows down without first closing an app. When this occurs, the portable launcher may not have been able to remove app data from the local disk, restore local app data back to the proper location, move portable app data to the proper directory for backups and upgrades, or similar.

The easiest way to prevent this, is to use the PortableApps.com Platform’s «Close Apps on Platform Exit» feature. This will automatically close your portable apps safely without causing data loss or leaving any data behind on the local machine. It includes specialized logic to close apps that don’t properly respond to Windows shutdown app close messages as well. Apps in PortableApps.com Format as well as those that are natively portable will be detected and asked to close. The platform will even warn you about any running apps that did not respond to the request to close (LibreOffice having a document open with unsaved changes, for instance).

Ideally, we would like the error message to be dismissable and not require another launch of the AppNamePortable.exe launcher. Unfortunately, this is not possible at present due to the way the PortableApps.com Launcher is written. Adding this feature will take a major rewrite of sections of the PortableApps.com Launcher and our volunteer developers do not have time at present. We hope to add this in a future release.

Additionally, we would like to adjust the PortableApps.com Launcher to detect and respond to Windows shutdown messages directly. This will likely require a rewrite of the launcher in a different programming language, so it will take quite a bit of time and effort to achieve.

Running the Platform from a UNC Path

As of version 12.0, the PortableApps.com Platform supports running from a UNC path directly. Previously, a mapped drive letter was required. Most apps should function from a UNC path as well.

Unfortunately, there is a bug in the PortableApps.com Installer (the packaging format used by all our apps) prior to 3.0.12 that causes them to be unable to install due to not enough free space on UNC paths when run in automatic mode. Automatic mode occurs when the platform runs the installers directly either through the platform’s built in app store, updater or via the Apps — Install a New App option.

The workaround for now is to map a drive letter to your UNC path that contains the PortableApps.com Platform. You can also run the .paf.exe installers directly and select the \\Server\ShareName\Path\PortableApps directory to install to by browsing so the final path is \\Server\ShareName\Path\PortableApps\AppNamePortable. We will also be continuing to update our installers to the new format for full compatibility with UNC paths.

You may receive a message when trying to run EXE files from your UNC path similar to: ‘Security Warning — We can’t verify who created this file. Are you sure you want to run this file?’. This is because Windows hasn’t determined that the UNC path is on your local Intranet. To fix this error:

1. Open your Network and Sharing Center by clicking Start — Control Panel — Network and Sharing Center
2. Within the Network and Sharing Center, click on Internet Options in the lower left
3. In the Internet Properties window, select the Security tab
4. In the Security tab, click Local intranet and then click Sites
5. In the Local intranet window, click the Advanced button
6. In the new window, enter the \\server\share within the ‘Add this webdite to the zone:’ box and click Add. It will appear under the Websites list as ‘file://server’ or similar.
7. Click close, OK, OK on the various windows and then close the Internet and Sharing Center.
8. You should now be able to run EXE files from this server without Windows prompting you with security warnings.

Removing Apps from the PortableApps.com Menu

To uninstall a portable app, just right-click and select Uninstall. The Platform will ask if you’re sure, then it will take a few moments to delete all the files.

You can also just delete the app itself in Explorer. From the PortableApps.com Menu, just click the Explore button and browse to the PortableApps directory. There you will see a list of the directories containing the installed apps. To uninstall Mines-Perfect Portable, for instance, you’d just delete the Mines-PerfectPortable directory from your device. You can then click Options — Refresh App Icons within PortableApps.com Menu and the it will detect that you uninstalled the app.
